Ambition?

When is ambition okay? I know it is not when you use or abuse others for selfish gain or even just ignore others needs in your quest for ..whatever. I have plenty...really, i have excess.. I just can't turn off my ambition button. I want to be more, achieve more, do better..... I don't even know what it means...Its not that i am not thankful for what i have.. I am. It is not by any merit of mine that i was born into a situation where i can even comprehend ambition. It is not to my credit that i don't have to scrape through garbage to feed myself. I know that i get caught up in consumerism and stuff..meaningless stuff... I forget my priorities and lay up meaningless treasures on earth...but the drive to achieve doesn't have anything to do with stuff...I don't care to be rich or anything...It is just that stuff distracts me. I am not sure what my motives are. I know that i want to help people but i don't have to achieve anything to do that..Some achievements  put more resources at my disposal so i can better help people.... Just the opportunity for an education, that i can work hard and achieve something, that i was born in a place where i can better my situation (if it is bettering) is a gift. It is a gift wasted if i don't use it to the best of my ability to show Christ's love. Opportunity in itself is a blessing and i have an abundance of it.
"To whom much has been given, much is expected" (Luke 12:48) is a scary and thrilling verse because I have been given sooo much. I have been extravagantly blessed.
Lord, Please make my heart clean. I don't understand my motives, but you do. Whatever they are, please help me to use your boundless blessings wisely and to bless others and be an instrument of your love.

Psalm 3

1 O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me;  2 many are saying of my soul, there is no salvation for him in God.  3  But you,  O Lord, are a shield about me,  my glory, and the lifter of my head.  4  I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill.  5 I lay down and slept; I woke again; for the Lord sustained me.  6  I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around. 7 Arise, O Lord! Save me, O my God!  For you strike all of my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked. 8  Salvation belongs to the Lord; your blessings be on your people!

At this time, David felt that the world was against him, and not without reason.  He was king over Israel and he was surrounded by his enemies.  Other nations were power hungry and greedy and coveted Israel. From earlier chapters it seems that his advisers and people close to him resented him.  His sons just wanted the throne.   People were saying his faithfulness was foolish.  They said there was no salvation for him in God. As he said, "thousands have set themselves" against him all around.   David made his share of mistakes but he was called " a man after God's own heart." He loved the Lord and sought to please him.  He cared for his people.  He cared for their souls and their safety.  He is calling out to the Lord  for His protection. Even though David was persecuted from every direction , he knew God would protect him. He said " But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head."  In the same way, if we follow God, we will face different levels of persecution. People will call us foolish.  They will say that God is not real and can not offer us salvation.   We will be called names and be falsely accused.  People will actively seek to discredit us and God.  But whatever we face, we can take comfort in the Lord and the hope we have in him for salvation.  We can have joy because he is our protector.  We should take comfort in him allow him to the shield around around our hearts so that we can persevere, whatever the situation. :)

Lord,
Please help we to take comfort and joy in you and your word.  Please help me not to try to do it alone, but to allow you to shield me by trusting in you.  Thank you so much for your your son, who makes the protection possible.  Please help me have the courage to show others they joy you put in me.  In Christ name, Amen.

Psalm 2

1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, 3 "Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us."
4 He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. 5 Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, 6 "As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill."
7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me " You are my Son; today I have begotten you. 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of earth your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel."
10 Now therefore, O kings,  be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. 11Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath quickly kindles. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.

New testament passages that refer back to this Psalm include Romans 1:4, Acts 13:33, Hebrews 1:5, Hebrews 5:5.

This Psalm gives me great comfort.  If we pay very close attention it would be easy to get caught up in fear and stress because of how the leaders and the governments in the world and the decisions they make.  They work against the Lord and those who love him.  They do not recognize God's word as a gift and seek to be free from what they consider to be a restrictive life.  But the wonderful thing for those who take refuge in the Lord is that we do not have to be afraid. We belong to God's kingdom and even at this point, He already has a plan to send his son Jesus.  He tells David "Ask of me and I will make the nations your heritage and the ends of earth your possession."  God's son, Jesus, who he has "set on Zion, my holy hill"  a descendent of David, is sent so that everyone (all nations),  has a chance at salvation.  The Lord doesn't send Jesus only to be the King over the Jews, but over everyone.  Even back and before, God loved us so much that he was planning to send his Son, so that we could be a part of His kingdom and be under His protection.  David is warning the rulers of the earth that the real ruler of all time is coming, and they must be wise and "Kiss the Son", cherish Him, love Him.  It is only Christ's sacrifice, and His role as our mediator and king, that allows us to have grace from the just, right, and supremely fair judgment of God.  Without Jesus, we can only be found guilty, because we are guilty, and God is fair and just. Like any good judge, he cannot ignore the evidence of our guilt.  But he gave us tho opportunity to be seen and clean and blameless by sending Jesus to take the blame for us.  We are blessed by taking refuge in Jesus love which allows God's grace to be extended to us.  So, as long as we are taking refuge in Jesus,  we do not have to worry about what the governments of the world are doing, or even the corruption and persecution that we will at some time or another have to endure, as long as we belong to the only kingdom that lasts.

Lord,
Please help me to trust in you and take refuge in your protection. Help me not worry about the corruption of the governments in the world. Please help me to spend my time working to help further your kingdom, the only one that lasts.  Please help me to remember when I feel down, lonely, or persecuted, that this world is not my home and i do not belong to the governments in it.  Forgive me when I forget this. Thank you for your for your insight and wisdom in sending your Son so that I can have a home with you someday. In His name, Amen.

Psalm 1:5-6

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

The wicked will not stand in judgment nor sinners with the righteous because they have separated themselves from God.  We can not be in two place at once, so naturally if we have chosen to separate ourselves from his will for our lives, then it would be imposible for us to simultaneously stand with him.   Since we are made in the image of God, he knows how we best function on every level,  physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually, etc.  We are meant to function and be like him.  He knows how we function and how He functions, and he knows the "way of the righteous"(his way) is so healthy that when we follow it, we will be able to live eternally with him.  But if we separate ourselves from him, we begin to die. My understanding is that the way of the wicked will perish because we are designed to be like God, and when we try to exist any other way, it doesn't work, and so we perish.

Lord,
Please help me to trust you because you know what is best for me.  Thank you for the gift of your word and your grace in the form of Jesus, so that I have the opportunity to live like you and with you forever.  Thank you for loving me enough to have a chance for a healthy and everlasting life. Please forgive me when I think that I know better than you.  Thank you for all the blessings you have already showered into my life and the fruit I have seen by doing it your way.  In Jesus name, Amen.

Today I will just move on to Psalm 1 verses 3-4. I don't plan to work through all of psalms only covering it 2 verses at a time but it works for today. :)

3. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.  In all that he does, he prospers. 4. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

When we let God fill us up, we will yield fruit/good things, and He will do good things through us.  He nourishes us like a spring.  Without his nourishment, we dry up.  We cannot give something that we do not have in the first place.  Fruit cannot be picked from a dried up tree and that is what we are if we are not being nourished by God.  However, if we do allow God to love us and fill us, we in turn will prosper and succeed in showing love to others.  If we allow ourselves to become dried up, we become so insubstantial that we can be driven or swayed by the wind.  Without him, we have no roots or weight, so that we can easily be swayed and lost in popular culture, being blown about by society and whatever way it says is right at the time.

Dear Lord,
Help me to plant myself by your stream so that I can be nourished,  yield fruit for you, and better nourish others.  Help me not to dry up and be easily swayed by the wind and the world. Please forgive me when I fall short. Thank you for your mercy and grace through your son. In His name,  Amen.

My first post woohoo!

I will be using the SOAP method which i learned from some very lovely ladies.

S- Scripture-  write it.... or in this case type it.
O- Observe - What is it saying
A- Apply - How is this applicable to me and to people today?
P- Pray
For the blog i will combine the Observe and Apply steps. :)

Psalm 1:1-2
Blessed is the man who walks not in the council of the wicked,  nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

 My thoughts...
Don't let bad company corrupt my thoughts, mind, heart, or actions.  I think of the saying "What goes in, comes out."  Today this can also apply books, media, etc.  I don't mean we should shut ourselves away from the world and live in a shell.  But, how do we spend our time (and with whom) and to what are we devoted?  With what are we feeding our minds and souls?  We should meditate on the Lord and keep our thoughts, hearts, etc as pure as possible.  This will allow us to reflect Christ more clearly.  If reading God's word is like looking into a mirror ( James 1), then everything we allow into our lives which is not Christ-like is a speck or a smear on that mirror so that we reflect God poorly. His image becomes distorted.  The better we reflect God, the more people we are able to reach and bring to him.

 My Prayer....
Dear Lord,  Please help me to reflect on your word and fill my mind with Godly thoughts, so that you in-turn will reflect in me. Thank you for your grace and mercy when i fall short and reflect you imperfectly.  Please forgive me for these times.  Thank you for your son Jesus, who made it all possible.  In his name, Amen.
